Supporting Emergency Care Close to Home
Every day, the Emergency Department at Georgetown Hospital handles hundreds of urgent situations where minutes matter. But healthcare never stands still. As one of Ontario’s fastest-growing communities, Halton Region is facing unprecedented demand. Our patients are older, medical needs are increasingly complex, and our teams are frequently operating beyond the capacity the department was originally designed for.
To meet the challenges of the next decade, we must invest now in the future of emergency care close to home.
Our forward-looking strategy focuses on critical investments across three key pillars:
- Frontline Innovation: Equipping our Emergency Department and vital support services, including diagnostic imaging, laboratory, and pharmacy, with advanced technology for faster diagnosis and better patient outcomes.
- Advanced Simulation: Expanding specialized programs that allow physicians, nurses, and clinical teams to practice high-pressure scenarios, like cardiac arrest and trauma, in a controlled environment before real emergencies occur.
- Continuous Education: Funding ongoing training to keep our healthcare professionals at the forefront of evolving medical best practices.
While government funding covers basic infrastructure, advanced medical technology and specialized clinical training depend on donors. Your generous gift will help ensure our healthcare teams have the best tools available to provide exemplary care when you need it most.
Here is an example of some of the equipment that is needed at Georgetown Hospital:

Patient Monitors
Patient monitors track vital signs such as heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen levels, and breathing in real time, helping our care teams recognize changes in a patient’s condition and respond quickly when it matters most. This critical equipment upgrade will support faster, more accurate care for thousands of patients and families in our community.

Urology Laser
This advanced laser helps our urology team treat kidney stones and enlarged prostates more effectively with faster procedures, less discomfort, and better outcomes, right here at home.
- Kidney Stones — Breaks up stones faster and more completely than older technology, reducing the risk of fragments shifting during surgery. Procedures are up to 20% faster, with stone removal up to 33% more efficient.
- Enlarged Prostate (BPH) — Removes tissue with greater precision while reducing bleeding. Surgery is shorter, recovery is quicker, and more than 90% of patients go home the very same day.
“For many patients, a CT scan is the key step that allows doctors to make the right diagnosis quickly and accurately. Having this technology right in the hospital, close to home, ensures that patients aren’t waiting or being transferred elsewhere for urgent testing. ”
